Scot Hunsaker

Scot earned his BS in Business from Indiana University. He has grown up in the aquatic industry working in the family business that owned and operated swimming and recreation facilities. After a 5 year hiatus working in the banking industry, Scot returned to aquatics working at Counsilman – Hunsaker in 1989. He is a member of the National Swimming Pool Foundation Board of Directors, Chairmen of the Grant Committee, and a voting member of the National Sanitation Foundation’s Recreational Water Faculties joint Committee. Scot also sits on the Associate Board of Directors for The Business Bank of St. Louis.

Tom Lachocki

Tom earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Louisiana State University and his B.S. from Lock Haven University. He has held positions in research and business development in recreational-water treatment, surfactants, lubricants, catalysts, and solvents prior to joining NSPF; he is an inventor on eight patents. He has chaired the Recreational Water Quality Committee of the National Spa and Pool Institute (NSPI), and for five years has been active with the NSPI Technical Committee and the National Fire Protection Association - Hazardous Chemical Committee.

Todd Roth

Todd earned his BA in Landscape Architecture from Penn State University where he played water polo. Todd is the Aquatics Supervisor for Centre Region Parks & Recreation in State College PA. He has been working in the Aquatics industry for over 20 years, and has been with CRPR for the past 10, serving five municipalities who partner for recreation services. He oversees the operations of two outdoor aquatic facilities and coordinates program scheduling at the local high school pool year-round. He also coaches swimming and water polo in the area.

Ernest Blatchley

Ernest Blatchley

“Chip” earned his Ph.D. in 1988 from the University of California, Berkeley where he also earned his MS degree; he received his B.S. from Purdue University – all three degrees were in Civil (Environmental) Engineering. His research interests are in physico /chemical processes of environmental engineering. In the aquatics industry, he has become an industry leader in researching ultraviolet application for swimming pool water disinfection. He also chairs the technical committee of the International Ultraviolet Association which is charged with addressing the issue of application of UV-based water treatment systems in recreational water facilities.

Kevin Post

In the role of Principal and Studio Director, Kevin specializes in providing facility evaluations, aquatic facility business plans, city-wide aquatic master plans, and Certified Pool Operator instruction and certification. As a past competitive swimmer and Aquatics Director, Kevin draws on this aquatic experience allowing him to address the needs of various client types. Kevin has written numerous articles and hosted various presentations across the country on topics ranging from creating partnerships for a successful aquatic facility to sustainable aquatic business practices.

Carl Nylander

Carl earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology where he swam and was team captain for the men’s swimming team. He was later named assistant coach for both men’s and women’s teams. Carl is a project director with the aquatic design and engineering firm Counsilman – Hunsaker. He is a Power 25 Recipient from Aquatics International and is Technical Committee Chairman for the Model Aquatic Health Code – Facilities Design and Construction module.

In many ways, Joe Hunsaker helped to create the aquatic design industry. In 1970, he created Counsilman -Hunsaker & Associates with his former swimming coach, James “Doc” Counsilman. He was recognized as one of the world’s premier aquatics designers and was instrumental in raising the profile of the industry through his work with organizations like the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the International Swimming Hall of Fame and others. While Joe is no longer with us in body, his spirit and knowledge continue to suffuse and inspire the aquatic design industry. We’re fortunate to have a collection of essays and aphorisms Joe authored and called his “For What It’s Worth” memos. We’re honored and pleased to be able to share them with you.

Joel earned his BS in Biology from the University of Miami and his Ph.D. in Physiology from the Medical Science Program at Indiana University. He is a Professor in the IU Department of Kinesiology and Director of The University's Counsilman Center for The Sciences of Swimming. The Center’s current research focuses on Competitive Swimmer Performance; Aging, Health and well being of US Master Swimmers; Swimming Energy Expenditure; issues pertaining to the Competitive Swim Start; the relationship between swim Power and Velocity; the neurophysiology of 'Shaving Down', modern swim suit design, and predicting trends in elite swim performances worldwide.

Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA), based in Lausanne, Switzerland is the sole worldwide sports organization governing swimming, diving, synchronized swimming, water polo and open water swimming. FINA has signed a partnership agreement with Counsilman – Hunsaker for the 2nd FINA World Aquatics Convention to be held in Moscow, Russia, October 29 – November 1, 2012. The FINA World Aquatic Convention is a unique occasion to evaluate and discuss the development of the Aquatic sports on the five continents, and to suggest, by a common exchange of point of view, further ways of progress. We welcome Counsilman – Hunsaker with their strong background in aquatic sport to join us in these conversations.

Rod McComas

Rod earned his his B.S. in Engineering (Structural & Architectural Engineering Major) from Purdue University . After several positions with engineering frims, Rod founded McComas Engineering in 1991. McComas Engineering has experience in all types of structural analysis and design. In the aquatic market, McComas Eningeering has completed the structural design on over 250 pools.

Rob earned his Masters and Bachelors from Georgia Southern University where he was a four year student athlete and NCAA representative. He qualified to compete in the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials and retired from full time competition after the trials. He has held the Senior Director in Marketing Partnerships with the International Speedway Corporation and Chief marketing Officer with the World Racing Group. Rob is currently the Executive Director of United States Masters Swimming.

With more than a decade’s worth of experience, Chris leads the Business Studio supporting all corporate operations of Counsilman-Hunsaker. Her role as Studio Director incorporates various aspects of the business including financial performance reporting, human resources, corporate structure and registration, information technology as well as other general business administration. In addition, Chris oversees the functions of the administrative team.

Steve Foley became the USA Diving High Performance Director following the retirement of Ron O'brien in July 2008. Foley started his career diving in Australia, where he was a three-time Olympian (1976, 1980 and 1984) and was the first Australian male diver to final in both springboard and platform at the Games (1984). He served as head diving coach and Australian national coach at the Australian Institute of Sport from 1989-1995 and was head coach of Australia’s 1992 Olympic Team after attending the 1988 Games as an assistant coach. Foley has attended the past nine Olympic Games in a number of capacities".

Kelly earned her BS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh and will complete her MBA in early 2013. She has worked at PPG Industries for the last eight years primarily in the Calcium Hypochlorite business (now part of Axiall Corporation) in a variety of sales and marketing roles. She is currently the Manager of Market Development and Quality Initiatives in the Water Treatment Products business unit at Axiall, the producers of the Accu-Tab® tablet chlorination systems for the aquatics industry as well as a number of other markets globally.

Aaron is part of TMI’s marketing and OEM support division , He also acts as a backup TSR when the need arises. Aaron has been with TMI since 2007, Shortly after he became CPO® certified. Stephané Rebeck McCormick has over 25 years of experience in aquatic management, having held several leadership positions in aquatics, education, and related fields. A native of New Jersey, Stephé spent 12 years with the YWCA of Princeton, worked as an oceanfront lifeguard with the Harvey Cedars Beach Patrol, and served as Aquatic Program Manager with Clayton Parks & Recreation from 2001 to 2008, during which time she set regional enrollment records and earned her department the prestigious Best in Aquatics award from Aquatics International. In 2009, Stephé founded Backyard Lifeguards, a fully equipped and insured portable professional lifeguard service that offers site-specific evaluations and water safety training to residential pools and their owners. The goal is to reduce the dramatic rate of drowning at historically under-supervised locations and events. Following mentions by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Today in St. Louis, Great Day St. Louis, and the Association of Aquatic Professionals, and increased demand for supervision and swim course management at adult events, Stephé created BYLG Sport, the competition services division of Backyard Lifeguards. A 2007 American Red Cross Community Lifesaver, Stephé is a certified Instructor Trainer in Water Safety and Lifeguarding who holds a Masters degree in Education from Columbia University. She is also a Boy Scouts of America merit badge counselor in swimming and lifesaving and a United States Lifesaving Association Surf Rescue Training Officer.

Mark C. Hatchel is a landscape architect, park planner, aquatic designer and certified pool operator with over 35 years of experience nationwide and internationally. His first pool project was traditional public sector pool in 1979. In 1999, Hatchel joined Kimley-Horn (a nationally ranked engineering firm) where he has completed over 35 public sector aquatic planning and family aquatic center projects. In 2008, Hatchel was named to “Aquatics International’s Power 25.” He is a Vice President and Senior Project Manager at Kimley-Horn and has received numerous awards, written many articles and been a speaker at the WWA Symposiums.

George Deines

George Deines

George has extensive experience in waterpark and pool operations, most recently with the City of Garland, Texas where he was responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Surf and Swim, the City’s four-acre waterpark. In addition to his management experience, he is also an Ellis & Associates Lifeguard Instructor-Trainer and the president of the North Texas Aquatics Association. His responsibility include working with clients to ensure current trends are integrated into the project in order to maximize revenue, improve efficiency and make the operation sustainable.

As he immersed himself in aquatic design, an opportunity was presented to Travis to coach at the collegiate level. Choosing to pursue this passion, Travis became active in the swim coach community attending USA Swimming Clinics, College Coaches of America Association conventions and even hosting his own midwest coaching clinic. During his 5 years of coaching, he also earned his Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Nicole Van Winkle

Nicole Van Winkle holds a Master’s degree in Recreation and Tourism Management from California State University, Northridge, where she focused her studies on experiential aquatics training and staff development/leadership. Throughout her career, Van Winkle has supervised the operations and development of several new aquatic facilities and waterparks in Southern California. In addition, she supervised the operations of several different types of community facilities, including a boxing club, sports complex and wedding venue. In addition to speaking at national conferences, Nicole serves as the Secretary of the World Waterpark Association’s Government Relations Committee, Past President for the Southern California Public Pool Operators Association, and the Region 4 Representative for the Aquatics Section for California Parks and Recreation Society. Currently, Nicole is a Project Manager for Counsilman Hunsaker, where she focuses on developing feasibility studies and launch operations training. She assists new pool operators and owners with pre-opening management services including providing staff training, producing facility specific business plans, and preparing standard operating procedures for new aquatic facilities. Nicole also provides clients with on-going full-time management services to assist clients with sustainable operating practices for the life of the facility.

Staci is a graduate of Drury University where she received a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minor in Fine Art. Staci has been in the swimming pool design industry since 1998 specializing in high-end hospitality and aquatic feature design. Staci is the in-house subject matter expert on fountains, waterfalls and decorative aquatic accents.

Erich holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Missouri – St. Louis. As a swimmer and coach of a private swim team, Erich is very familiar with swimming pools and brings real world experiences into the design world. With his engineering knowledge and excellent attention to detail, he develops and manages quality control workflow processes to ensure the accuracy of our deliverable products. He also oversees the Production Team to assist with daily operations in implementation of workflow processes.

Nick earned a Master of Architecture degree from Kansas University and is currently pursuing his Professional Architect’s license. He is also a LEED accredited professional with a specialty in building design and construction.

His facility management expertise provides a vast understanding of aquatics operations including large scale facility operations encompassing everything from pool chemical maintenance to swim meet management. Miklos earned a degree from Baylor University and holds certifications as a Certified Pool Operator, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor, and CPR/First Aid Instructor Trainer.

Maddie Monroe

Maddie Monroe

Maddie is a graduate of the University of Arkansas where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering as well as minors in physics and mathematics. Maddie has a strong aquatic sport background, spending many years as an age-group athlete in the St. Louis area which eventually culminated in a collegiate swimming career on the Razorback varsity team. At Arkansas, Maddie was a 3-time NCAA Championship Qualifier and upon graduation held six school records while also being named to the CSCAA Academic All-American team three times. After passing the Fundamentals Exam, she plans to work towards earning her professional engineering license and one day hopes to obtain a Master’s degree in Business Administration.
